Every year, around 200,000 people in the UK sustain a brain injury.

Most will recover sufficiently to return to homes, families and jobs and pick up the pieces of their normal life.

But, for a significant minority, the injury is so severe that they will never be free of major deficits - physical, cognotive, behavioural, emotional, or any combination of these.

In these cases it is not only their lives that are affected, so are the lives of family members, friends, and all those who care about them.

Headway Ipswich

We help our clients to return to work, volunteering, education and life in the community. We work with the family to help to keep it together. We help our clients to improve mobilty,
communication, life skills and social skills. Our clients tell us what they want to achieve and through a bespoke care plan we devise activities to help reach these goals.

Our main base in the grounds of Ipswich Hospital, Ipswich Headway provides a valuable resource to its clients, who not only come from Ipswich itself but also the surrounding area.

Headway House is open every weekday from 10am to 4pm and offers educational and life skill training. People come to us for a differing amount of time depending on thier need.

A balanced programme of rehabilitation includes help and instruction in the following areas-

  • Information Technology
  • Woodwork
  • Life Skills
  • Arts
  • Memory Exercises
  • Sports
  • Gardening
  • Crafts
  • Numeracy
We aim to meet our clients individual needs, and support people, whether they need general support, assistance to gain a qualification, or even a degree.
